The Mistick Krewe of Okeanos Carnival Parade is an annual celebration of Mardi Gras with floats, music and lots of fun. The parade winds through the Historic District of San Marcos and Downtown. A party will be had on the streets of San Marcos! The parade will begin at 12 p.m. and will follow the route posted on this page.

All participants must follow parade rules 

1. No politics! The Mistick Krewe is a strictly nonpolitical organization. On parade day, we take a break from all things political or potentially divisive. Politicians are welcome to participate as long as they are not identified as such. No political statements or slogans are allowed.  

2. Live Animals: We welcome all well-behaved pets in our parade. All animals must be on a leash or be properly restrained. You are responsible for cleaning up after your animals. 

3. Walkers (Spotters): Are mandatory for your float. Walkers are to maintain a position alongside of float near the wheels and prevent participants and/or spectators form being run over. Walkers must also be able to notify their driver of any problems that may require immediate action for the safety of all. Walkers are to be 18 years of age and up. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all walkers meet these requirements. 

4. Waivers: Parade participants must agree to indemnification waiver listed below. 

5. Prohibited Items: This is a family friendly, PG rated event. Please keep this in mind when determining decorations, costumes, or “throws”. No offensive language is allowed. No nudity or lewd behavior. No glass of any type. No political statements of any kind. If you are not sure, err on the side if discretion, or contact the Parade Chair. 

6. Trash: It is your responsibility to pick up your trash and dispose of it property. 

7. Theme: This year’s parade theme is ‘Okeanos salutes all things San Marcos”.  Have fun decorating your float or costumes representing all that is unique to San Marcos. 

8. Obey all instructions given by parade officials, Marshalls and city police. Obey all laws for the proper operation of a motor vehicle, including, but not limited to no drinking of alcoholic beverages or being under the influence of mind-altering substances. 

Failure to adhere to the Rules and Regulations, will result in immediate expulsion from the parade. 

9. By submitting the form below the Applicant certifies that Applicant has read these rules and that Applicant will insure to the best of Applicant's ability that Applicant's group will adhere to these rules.   

All participants must agree to this waiver of liability below: 

I hereby make application for myself and my family members, including those who may be minors, and/or business/club/organization (individually and collectively, “Applicant”), to voluntarily participate in the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos Family Mardi Gras Parade (the Parade) to take place on February 10, 2024 in San Marcos, Texas. 

The Applicant, in order to participate in the Parade and other Krewe activities, understands that providing automobile, accident, personal injury and personal liability insurance is Applicant’s responsibility, and in lieu of providing the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos (the “Krewe”) and the City of San Marcos (the “City”) an Insurance Coverage Certificate: 

APPLICANT, HEREBY AGREES TO RELEASE AND HOLD THE KREWE AND THE CITY, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, AGENTS, EMPLOYEES, AND VOLUNTEERS, HARMLESS FROM ANY INJURY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING DEATH, PERSONAL PROPERTY INJURY, AND PERSONAL INJURY, (AND ANY RESULTING OR RELATED CLAIM, ACTION, LOSS, LIABILITY, OR REASONABLE EXPENSE, INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES AND OTHER FEES AND COURT AND OTHER COSTS), OCCURRING AS A RESULT OF APPLICANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE PARADE. THE APPLICANT AGREES THAT EACH PARTY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS OWN LIABILITY AND THAT THE KREWE OR CITY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INJURY CAUSED BY THE APPLICANT OR APPLICANT'S GROUP.  

Applicant further agrees to abide by the rules of the Parade and will require all participants of Applicant’s organization or family to abide by the Parade rules and to use good safety precautions during our participation. The Undersigned expressly acknowledges that the activities of the Parade (including pre-and post-Parade activities) may be dangerous and may involve the risk of serious injury, death, and/or property damage. This Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Texas and jurisdiction for any legal action arising from this Agreement or the Parade shall be proper only in the County of Hays, State of Texas.  

The applicant further agrees to Binding Arbitration as the sole means of resolving disputes between the Applicant or Applicant's group and the Krewe or City. The Applicant and the Krewe acknowledge that the arbitration process, and in particular, the Arbitrator's award, is binding and conclusive upon all parties and is not subject to appeal or review by any judicial or administrative process (except that required by law). The Applicant and the Krewe agree that their submission to the arbitrator constitutes an irrevocable consent to having this action resolved entirely through arbitration except for motions to confirm or vacate the arbitrator’s award.  

The invalidity or unenforceability of any of the provisions hereof shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the remainder of this Agreement. By submitting the application form below, Applicant certifies that Applicant has read and understands the Agreement set forth above. The undersigned also represents that it is authorized to sign this document on behalf of Applicant’s minor children and or business/club/organization.
